Introduction
Monthly maintenance plays a key role in preserving the long-term performance and reliability of ion chromatography systems. While daily and weekly checks keep systems running smoothly, monthly maintenance helps identify gradual wear, prevent component failure, and maintain consistent analytical results. This article outlines Metrohm's recommended monthly maintenance practices for ion chromatography systems; highlighting proactive steps that support system stability, extend instrument lifespan and minimize unexpected downtime.
Replace RP2 Guard Filter or Guard Column (if present)
Be sure to wear gloves when replacing in order to avoid contamination. Check for a rise in pressure greater than or equal to 1 MPa to indicate a change is needed.
Triple rinse eluent bottle with ultrapure water.
Triple rinse MSM solution bottles with ultrapure water (if using reusable containers).
-
Loosen RP2 holder carefully with two wrenches.
-
Place holder with long portion facing up.
-
Unscrew and remove upper housing.
-
Remove old RP2 guard disk.
-
Remove paper frit by carefully pushing a small wire or paper clip through the back of the holder.
-
Replace with new paper frit and RP2 guard disk (6.1011.130). Handle with gloves to avoid contamination.
-
Insert new paper frit using triple-rinsed tweezers and gently push edges of frit into holder rim.
-
Insert new RP Guard disk.
-
Reassemble holder. Tighten by hand, then 1/4 turn with wrench (do not over tighten).
Please note: You may need to change this more frequently depending on your sample matrix.
