Introduction
This video demonstrates how to safely refill the mercury reservoir of the multi-mode electrode (MME) used with the 746 VA Trace Analyzer. Before beginning, gather all required materials, including a collection tray, electrode holder, mercury, syringe with needle, coin, and a Mercury Catcher. Having all supplies prepared in advance helps ensure the procedure can be completed safely and efficiently.
During this procedure, mercury is carefully added to the electrode reservoir while working over a collection tray to contain any spills. The reservoir is filled to the correct level, the sealing screw is positioned to prevent leaks, and any scattered mercury droplets are collected using the Mercury Catcher. Following these steps helps ensure the MME is properly filled and ready for reliable operation.

Procedure
- The following tasks must be carried out over the plastic tray!
- In addition to the MME, the following are required for refilling mercury: collection tray, electrode holder, mercury, syringe with needle, a coin, and the "Mercury Catcher" for collecting any spilled mercury droplets.
- Remove the electrode from the measuring stand. First, ensure that the electrode is switched off, then unscrew the nitrogen connections and remove the electrode cable.
- Slowly pour mercury into the electrode. It should be filled to no more than 2/3 full (max. 6 mL).
- The mercury reservoir opening is securely closed once the black sealing ring is clearly visible. No mercury can then leak out.
- The screw must not be fully inserted into the opening.
- Small amounts of spilled mercury can be collected using the mercury catcher (part number 6.2406.000).
