Introduction
This video demonstrates how to prepare an Ag/AgCl reference system electrode for operation. Before beginning, gather all required materials, including the reference system, electrolyte vessel, 3 mol/L potassium chloride (KCl) electrolyte solution, a syringe, and ultrapure water for rinsing the reference electrode. Having all materials prepared in advance helps ensure the electrode is assembled correctly and performs reliably.
During this procedure, the condition of the reference system is verified, the internal reference system is filled with fresh 3 mol/L KCl electrolyte, and the external electrolyte vessel is prepared and assembled. Care is taken to eliminate air bubbles, thoroughly moisten the diaphragm and silver chloride pack, and allow the diaphragm to equilibrate before use. Completing these steps helps establish a stable reference potential and ensures the electrode is ready for accurate electrochemical measurements.

Control reference system (0:06)
- The silver chloride pack is thoroughly moistened. Ensure there is no air bubble in front of the diaphragm.

Refilling the reference system (0:22)
- It is also recommended to top up the electrolyte solution c(KCl) = 3 mol/L when using a new reference system.
- To refill the reference system, unscrew the diaphragm carrier.
- Fill the syringe with electrolyte solution. Only KCl solution with a concentration of 3 mol/L should be used. A different electrolyte would alter the electrode's reference potential.
- Rinse the electrode with electrolyte solution so that solution comes out of both openings.
- Fill the reference system so that there is no air bubble left at the tip and close it with the diaphragm holder.

Filling the electrolyte container (01:33)
- Typically, c(KCl) = 3 mol/L is used as the external electrolyte. However, depending on the application, other electrolytes can also be used.
- Pour in the external electrolyte in such a way that there is no air bubble in front of the diaphragm.
- The diaphragm must be completely moistened before use. This usually takes about 15 minutes. During this time, the electrolyte container must not be immersed in the solution.
- For clarity, the solution has been colored with potassium permanganate.

Assembling the electrode (02:13)
- The reference system and the electrolyte vessel together form the reference electrode.
- Before assembly, check that the electrolyte vessel is filled to the line without air bubbles, that there is no air bubble in front of the diaphragm of the reference system, and that the silver chloride pack is well moistened.
