Introduction
Regular maintenance of the LL-Ag/AgCl (gel) reference electrode helps ensure a stable reference potential and reliable measurement performance. The maintenance-free reference system does not require servicing and must never be opened or refilled, as removing the diaphragm carrier will permanently damage the electrode. Routine maintenance is limited to replenishing the electrolyte vessel. Before beginning, gather the required materials, including 3 mol/L KCl gel electrolyte and ultrapure water for rinsing the reference electrode.
During this procedure, the electrolyte vessel is rinsed and refilled with fresh 3 mol/L KCl gel electrolyte while taking care to eliminate air bubbles in front of the diaphragm. Before reassembling the electrode, verify that the electrolyte vessel is filled to the indicated level, the reference system is free of air bubbles, and the Long-Life silver chloride cartridge is completely surrounded by electrolyte solution. Completing these steps helps maintain stable electrode performance and ensures accurate and reliable electrochemical measurements.

Procedure
- The reference system itself is maintenance-free; only the electrolyte container needs to be refilled.
- This requires gel electrolyte c(KCl) = 3 mol/L and ultrapure water for rinsing the reference electrode.
- The 6.0728.x40 reference system is maintenance-free and cannot be refilled. Removing the diaphragm carrier will destroy the electrode.
- When used with the maintenance-free reference system 6.0728.x40, only c(KCl) = 3 mol/L should be used as the external electrolyte. To extend maintenance intervals, the use of the gel electrolyte c(KCl) = 3 mol/L is recommended.
- Thoroughly rinse the electrolyte container with ultrapure water and refill it with the gel electrolyte so that there is no air bubble in front of the diaphragm.
- Before assembly, check that the electrolyte vessel is filled to the line without air bubbles, that there is no air bubble in front of the diaphragm of the reference system, and that the Long-Life silver chloride cartridge is surrounded by electrolyte solution.
